Short answer

A Product Hunt listing needs a tagline of 60 characters or fewer, a description of 500 or fewer, and a first comment covering what it does, who it is for, your story, pricing and a request for feedback.

The copy is where most launches slip, because it is written last, in a hurry. This tool gives you a draft of every piece in a few minutes, built from your own words, so you start from something real instead of a blank page.

It uses templates, not AI, and it runs in your browser: nothing you type is sent to us. Because it only rearranges what you tell it, the draft is only as good as your answers. Treat it as a first pass and rewrite each part in your own voice.

What each part is for

PartLimit or guidanceIts job
Tagline60 characters at mostOne line that says what the product does, so a visitor knows in a second
Description500 characters at mostA short summary: what it is, who it is for, what it does

X post280 charactersThe launch announcement for your followers
LinkedIn postAbout 3,000 charactersA longer launch story for your network

The tagline and description limits, and the advice for the first comment, come from Product Hunt's own launch guide. It also says that 70% of products that reached Product of the Day, Week or Month included a first comment from the maker, so it is worth writing.

Writing a tagline that works

The first comment

Post it as soon as the launch is live. Open with who you are, say what it does and who it is for, tell the short story of why you built it, list what it does today, state any pricing or offer, and finish with one real question. A specific question gets better answers than "what do you think?". The draft above follows that order.

Match the words to the film

The one thing you want people to remember should be the same in the tagline, the first comment and the film. If you have not planned the film yet, build a draft with the launch video script builder, and put every step on a timeline with the launch checklist. For a longer walk-through of the whole launch, read how to make a Product Hunt launch video, or how to announce a feature with a short video.

Want the film made for you? Send us a brief. We send a one-page storyboard first, then a private preview, and you pay only once you are happy with it.

How to use it

  1. Describe the product. Enter the name, what it does, who it is for, and any problem, features, story, offer or link you want to include.
  2. Write the copy. Press the button to get a tagline, description, first comment, X post and LinkedIn post.
  3. Edit and check the counts. Rewrite each part in your own voice. A count turns red when a part is over its limit.
  4. Copy it out. Copy each part, or everything at once, and paste it into your listing and your posts.

Frequently asked questions

How long can a Product Hunt tagline be?

Product Hunt allows a tagline of up to 60 characters. The name should be only the product name, with no description or emojis, and the description can be up to 500 characters. The tool shows a live count against each limit.

What should I put in the Product Hunt first comment?

Product Hunt suggests key features, who it is for, your team story, any pricing or offers, and a request for feedback. Post it as soon as the launch is live, and end with one specific question to start a real conversation.

Is the copy written by AI?

No. It is built from templates in your browser using only the words you enter. That keeps it honest, because nothing is added that you did not say, and it means nothing you type is sent to us. You should still edit it into your own voice.

Why is my tagline showing red?

Because it is over 60 characters. The tool builds three options from your own words and does not cut them, so the longer ones go red. Shorten the line yourself, or use the shortest option.

Can I use the posts for other places than Product Hunt?

Yes. The X and LinkedIn posts work for any launch. Change the first line if you are not launching on Product Hunt, and put your own link in the link field.
